Sound familiar?
The four reasons people in Jerome call a fence company
A section went down in the wind
One storm, one flat run of fence, and a dog that now has an opinion about the neighborhood. Usually the posts failed, not the panels — which changes what the repair should be.
The posts are leaning
Push the top of a post. If it moves at the ground line, that post is finished no matter how good the wood above it looks. Freeze-thaw here runs from −25 °F to 110 °F.
There is no fence at all
New build, new lot, no fence line to inherit and no survey pins left. Getting the property line right the first time costs far less than moving a fence later.
Stock are getting out
A fence that does not meet Idaho Code 35-102 is not a lawful fence, and that distinction matters for liability when animals get onto a road.

Built for Jerome and the Magic Valley
We check the soil first
Jerome sits on basalt under loess. Some lots auger clean, others hit rock at 20 inches. We find out at the estimate, so the price reflects your ground instead of changing halfway through.
Embedment sized to the panel
A solid privacy fence catches wind like a sail. We size post depth and concrete to the panel area, which is why our fences are not the ones lying flat after a storm.
Written per-foot pricing
You get a number per linear foot before work starts, with removal and gates as their own lines. No day-of surprises.
Old footings come out
We extract the previous concrete rather than snapping posts at grade and shifting the line. It costs more up front and is why the fence still stands straight in ten years.

Real numbers
What a fence actually costs here
Most fence companies make you call to get a number. Here are the ranges we work from, based on published Magic Valley installed pricing. Your quote will be a specific number, not a range.
What moves the price
Gate count, how much old fence has to come out, whether equipment can reach the line, slope, and how deep the basalt sits on your lot. Removal typically adds $3–$8 per foot. A run that hits rock at 20 inches costs more than one that augers clean, and we would rather tell you that at the estimate than discover it on install day.

DIY, the cheapest bid, or the job done properly
Fencing is one of those trades where the cheapest bid and the proper job look identical for about two years. Here is where they actually differ.
| DIY weekend | Cheapest bid | Done properly | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Post depth | Whatever the auger reached before hitting rock | Frost minimum, regardless of panel size | Sized to the panel’s wind area and your soil |
| Hitting basalt | Job stops; rental auger goes back | Post set shallow and concreted over | Rock auger or breaker; depth still met |
| Old footings | Left in the ground | Snapped at grade, line shifted over | Extracted, new posts in solid ground |
| Hardware | Whatever the box store stocked | Electroplated — rusts near irrigation | Hot-dip galvanized or stainless |
| 811 locate | Often skipped | Sometimes skipped | Filed and cleared every time |
| If it fails | Your weekend, again | Chasing a phone number that stopped working | We come back and fix it |

Questions
Fence questions people in Jerome actually ask
How much does a fence cost in Jerome, Idaho?
Most residential fences in the Jerome and Twin Falls area run $35–$60 per linear foot installed once gates, site access, and removal are counted. By material: vinyl typically $25–$40 per foot, wood $20–$45, chain link $10–$25, and agricultural wire fencing $4–$12. A standard 150-foot privacy run usually lands between $3,750 and $6,000 before gates or taking out an old fence.
Do I need a permit to build a fence in Jerome?
Usually not. The City of Jerome Building Department does not review or issue permits for fences under 7 feet in height, and the residential maximum in rear and side yards is 6 feet — so a standard privacy fence needs no building permit. Front yards are different: nothing may materially block vision above 3 feet within 20 feet of the front property line. Confirm your specific lot with the Building Department at (208) 324-8189, particularly on a corner.
How deep do fence posts need to go here?
Deep enough to clear frost and reach stable material — but Jerome sits on Snake River Plain basalt under 3 to 10 feet of windblown loess, so the honest answer is that it varies lot to lot. Some properties auger clean the whole way; others hit rock at 20 inches and need a rock auger or a breaker. We check the soil at the estimate so the price reflects the ground you actually have rather than changing on install day.
Who pays for a fence between me and my neighbor?
Idaho Code 35-103 sets out a procedure: serve written notice requiring your neighbor to build their half within six months, and if they refuse you may build the whole fence and recover half the cost by suit, with a lien attaching to their property. Idaho Code 35-104 then splits upkeep — each owner maintains the half on their left when standing on their own land facing the neighbor. Most neighbors simply agree to split it, which is easier, but put it in writing.
Why do fences blow down in the Magic Valley?
Almost always at the post, not the panel. A 6-foot solid privacy fence presents roughly twice the wind area of a spaced picket fence and transfers that load straight into the posts, so embedment depth, post diameter, and concrete volume have to be sized for it. Most wind-failed fences we are called out to were built with picket-fence post depth under a privacy-fence panel.
